Meet the Stylist: Karla Welch

We had the opportunity to chat with Celebrity Stylist, Karla Welch, and find out a little bit more about her fabulous styling techniques! She's one half of bi-coastal star styling team (and fellow Canadians) Kemal & Karla, dressing names like Michelle Williams, Lily Collins, Zooey Deschanel, Hailee Steinfeld – hello face of Miu Miu! – and Olivia Wilde (who she lovingly refers to as her 'girls').

Tell us the story behind your favorite wardrobe item.

My Balenciaga Moto Jacket. I always say it's what I'll rescue in a fire (after my family of course). I've put it on a few girls in editorials, but I'll never ever lend it.

What's your most memorable 'panic moment'?

When a cuff I designed for a client snapped right on her wrist as she was about to walk out the door!

How did you recover from it gracefully?'

Always have a backup as good as the original!

What is your favorite era for fashion?

I'm more interested in personal interpretation than eras.

What was your big break?

When my (future) agent followed me in Barney's and basically signed me on the spot.

Whose closet would you most like to raid?

No ones, I like mine. Clothing for me is about ownership and what the wearer brings to the piece.

Who are your favorite designers?

Muiccia Prada, Rei Kawakubo, Nicholas Guesquiere.
