With the rapid spread of coronavirus, many of us are find ourselves working from home for the next few weeks, ourselves included! Working from home comes with its own set of difficulties, from keeping a schedule and knowing how to self-motivate. (Need tips on how to be productive working from home? We’ve got that covered!) One question that gets asked a lot: what do you wear when working remotely? Sure, it is easy to simply roll out of bed and hop on the computer in pajamas, but is that the most productive ensemble for getting stuff done?

Here are a few of my tips on what to wear when working from home:

1) Pajamas Are For Sleeping, Not Working

We know, we know, working from home seems like the perfect excuse to live in your pajamas 24-7, but unfortunately, that can make it incredibly easy to stay in bed when you are supposed to be working and flip to Netflix when you should be catching up on emails.

Just like you’ve probably seen several work from home guides recommend that you create a separate space that’s dedicated for work, you should also help your body prepare for the work day by changing into something a little more polished. A work from home outfit can still be comfortable, but the act of changing into your day clothes will help you remind yourself that it is time for work.

2) Elevated Basics Are Your Friend

So what should you wear? Cozy but sophisticated basics are your new go-to options. Think cashmere sweaters, soft knit T-shirts, and stretch-fit jeans. There’s no need for you to feel uncomfortable while working at home, so opt for luxe fabrics and soft textures.

3) Maintain A Simple Beauty Routine

With essentially everyone working from home at the moment, chances are you are going to have a few more video conference calls then usual. Because of this, you should still maintain a simple beauty routine in the morning in case any last-minute video chats arise. (Under-eye bags over Skype? Not a good look!)

Nobody is saying you have to apply full-coverage foundation and contouring, of course! A little bit of concealer, mascara, and lip color should do the trick. Don’t forget to brush out your hair, too!

4) Fall In Love With Layering

I for one can never find a perfect temperature in my home, so layering is essential to maximum comfort. A nice oversize cardigan over a knit top is just the thing. Another way to layer at home? Find a thick knitted blanket if your legs get cold!

5) Invest In Cozy Slippers

Soft slippers are wonderful for walking around the house as you go about your day. If you don’t already own a pair of wear-at-home slippers, take this opportunity to find a pair and prepare for your life to change.
