Getting to meet and chat to so many women (and men!) who are inspired by what I've written. And getting to find out about what they do, and being equally inspired back! I never imagined how awesome that would feel. I'm still on my book tour now, and every city is so different.
Confidence. It is full of very practical advice and no short cuts I've learned from my time working in the fashion and beauty industry, but most of all the book is about women empowering themselves, following their goals,.and in many scenarios, giving themselves a break. We are very hard on ourselves and don't pat ourselves on the back enough.
First impressions are everything. Within 8 seconds, we get judged, whether we like fashion or not. The right outfit can send messages of ambition, success, positivity. It's worth giving yourself every shot possible, so why shouldn't your appearance play a part in that? It will never be more important than who you are on the inside, but it should at.least reflect that.
My dad once showed me an arrow pointing straight up. He said this is how most people view the route to success. Then he drew this crazy wiggly arrow that looped around all over the place. He said that's the real route. He is an entrepreneur, and his advice is gold to me. Expect knock backs and bumps in the road, that's all part of the learning process. Just never, ever give up.
I recently wrote a lengthy piece on Front Roe the blog about this because it's the question I get asked most often. Really it's about being proactive to single yourself out from the many people up against you. Have a rebut point of view, start a blog, style your own shoots with friends. Then, keep smiling while you do the coffee run and photocopying, there are no short cuts!
