A version of this story first appeared on Forbes.com
Allow us to introduce you to Lindsey Vonn. Yes, you most likely know Vonn as one of the world's best alpine skiers, with three Olympic medals to her name, but after announcing her retirement from competition earlier this year, there's a lot you may not know about Lindsey Vonn.
For example, did you know that Vonn has three dogs, or that she's obsessed with frozen yogurt and chocolate? Or that even though Vonn might be retired from professional skiing, she has a number of exciting projects coming up, including a beauty line and a new documentary?
We met up with Lindsey Vonn to discuss these upcoming projects and what she's looking forward to most about post-competition life:
SIMPLY: You may have announced your retirement from competition earlier this year, but you have so many exciting projects coming up outside of skiing! Tell us a bit more about what's in the works.
LINDSEY VONN: Yes! Everything has been going really well since I retired, but it's also been more intense than I expected. I've been incredibly busy.
I'm building my beauty line, which has been very exciting. I've always been interested in and obsessed with makeup—I wear it when I ski and when I'm at the gym—so now I'm finally able to create my own line and it's been really fun. We'll be launching that next spring.
I've also been working on my memoir, which is coming out in late winter.
HBO filmed me last year in my final season [of competition], and that will premier in November.
And then I'm also going to produce a movie with Pete Berg and Robert Redford.
SIMPLY: That all sounds amazing! Is there any one project that you are most excited for?
LV: It's all incredible and I feel very lucky that all these projects are coming together and have turned out so well, but I am really excited for the beauty line because it is something that I'm extremely passionate about. Hopefully everyone likes it as much as I do!
SIMPLY: Can you share any more details about the beauty line?
LV: It's really going to be a mix of everything. We're going to have the beauty line, which will include tinted moisturizer with SPF, eyeliner, lip balm, and glow drops. We're also going to have an eau de parfum and some other fun stuff . It's going to be really exciting.
I've been really involved from the beginning, especially with the perfume. That has been really interesting, because I had no idea how that process worked at all! I think my nose was a little burnt out from testing all the scents, but it has been an incredible experience.
SIMPLY: What are the essential makeup items you always have to wear?
LV: I just got the tinted moisturizer tester from my makeup line, so I've been wearing that, and then eyeliner; those are the two things I cannot deal without.
SIMPLY: Do you think your background as an athlete helped inspire the formulas for your line?
LV: My line is made for active people. I also wanted to minimize the steps. I don't have time to sit around and contour, so for me it's all about getting the most out of your products and having the least amount of steps. I can't tell you all the details, but I think it's going to be really exciting!
SIMPLY: Switching gears a bit, you no doubt have travelled a lot for your career! What are some of your tips for being an expert traveller?
LV: I've started to bring an instant camera with me. You know when you take pictures on your phone you never actually see them again, so I've started to travel with a Fujifilm camera so I can really enjoy those memories.
Other than that, headphones (I prefer Beats) to help me sleep or just take a break. I always wear knee compression sleeves because they get really swollen when I travel. I try to go to the gym when I travel, so I'll pack workout clothes. I'm a big sleeper on planes, but if I need to do work, I drink a Red Bull Sugar Free and then I'm good to go; definitely one of my pre-plane travel essentials. I also recommend bringing hand sanitizer and drinking a lot of water.
SIMPLY: Is there anything for summer in particular that you always pack?
LV: It's kind of the same, 365 days, when I travel. It depends on the weather where I'm traveling, but the essentials are always the essentials.
