What New Features Are Being Tested?
Instagram is testing two new features that would help video creators monetize their content: IGTV ads and Instagram Live “badges”.
The IGTV ads are pretty self explanatory and would work similarly to pre-roll ads on YouTube or Facebook videos. Once a user clicks to watch an IGTV video, they will see a short ad (up to 15 seconds) before the content loads.
The Instagram Live badges allow viewers to show support and stand out in the live comments feed. Viewers can purchase heart badges for a small price that will in turn allow the creator to know the questions and shoutouts to prioritize. This is similar to “tipping” functions on other live stream apps.
Why Is This Valuable For Creators?
The introduction of these two new tools will provide creators with two new ways to monetize on Instagram. Instagram will take a percentage of badge and ad sales, but influencers will also get a cut of the profit, making it a great way for influencers to monetize their account without relying solely on brand partnerships.
