So, you’ve mastered the art of public speaking, but what about taking it to the next level? Our next Session at The Grove will teach attendees about varying speaking styles, settings, and how these factors affect the public speaking process. And, we’ve enlisted one of our favorite content creators to lead this 3-hour crash course — Ashley Fultz! Ashley Fultz is an on-air expert, former E! News producer, and the creative mind behind a fashion and lifestyle blog, The Style Editrix. The Style Editrix is a go-to destination for daily fashion musings, travel inspiration, baby must-haves, and beauty tips & tricks. Ashley has dreamt of working in entertainment & fashion from a very young age, so it is no surprise she is currently pursuing that dream as an on-air TV Host who dishes about major trends in fashion!

Ashley is prepared to teach attendees everything they need to get off their feet and in front of an audience! Purchase your tickets HERE to learn how to talk the talk at our next Session. In the meantime, check out our Q+A with Ashley below:

SS: You worked as a producer for E! News for six years, what skills did you take away from the corporate world? I learned what hard work is, how to be professional and how to conduct myself within the work place, how to ask for and go after what I want (I got three promotions during my years there), and how to navigate through office politics.

SS: What made you want to work in TV? I wanted to work in TV since I was 8 years old watching Jules Asner on E! doing celebrity interviews and hosting on the red carpets. It looked so interesting, glamorous, and fun! Producing is really creative and cool, but I love the ability to connect with people and share my passions with women around the world when I am on camera. And it’s definitely not as easy as it looks, so I love the challenge!

SS: You appear on various TV shows as a style expert. Do you have any advice for up-and-comers who are looking to pursue a career in hosting, YouTube, or TV? Become an expert in the field you are passionate about – celebrity, fashion, beauty, food, travel. I know style and how to give usable tips and tricks after being the Fashion & Lifestyle Producer for E! News for years, and I knew I could share my knowledge in front of the camera, as well. My advice is to take some classes, put yourself on camera, and just do it!

If you love it, you’ll find a way to make it work and create the content you want and then pitch yourself to the right producers and editors of the shows or sites you want to work with. Gather as much video content of yourself as you can (even if it’s your mom shooting it) and make a reel so you have something to show producers and brands so they know you can do it.

SS: How do you calm your nerves before going on air? I still get nervous before I go on air, but as long as I know what I am talking about and am prepared, I know I can do it. Plus, that nervous energy and adrenaline will help pep you up because your personality needs to be bigger than it is in real life! The more you do it, the easier it gets and the more confident you’ll feel.

SS: What are 3 public speaking rules you swear by? Three rules I have for public speaking are:

  1. Know your audience so you can tailor you talking points.
  2. Write out your talking points or speech in advanced and then speak it, practice makes perfect.
  3. Have fun and your audience will, too!
