Learning The Secrets Of Japanese Skincare With DHC
This post was done in partnership with DHC.
We had such an amazing time hosting an intimate group of influencers at the SIMPLY Rooftop last week to celebrate DHC Skincare and their olive oil-infused skincare products, especially because we got to learn all about the esteemed Japanese beauty brand and their best-selling products.
One thing we learned: we’re doing makeup cleanser all wrong.
Because DHC was founded in Japan, they embrace Japanese beauty traditions and rituals, including the practice of “double cleansing”. Japanese skincare emphasizes putting time and care into your routine, and double cleansing is key to bringing your skin back to its natural state after a long day.
Double cleansing is exactly what it sounds like: cleansing your skin twice to double down on stubborn makeup, dirt and excess sebum.
Here’s how it works:
First, use an oil-based cleanser like DHC’s bestselling Deep Cleansing Oil (seriously, one is sold every 10 seconds around the world!) which uses organic olive oil to dissolve dirt and makeup as well as rosemary leaf oil to invigorate your skin. Unlike some cleansers, the Deep Cleansing Oil works best when applied to a dry face with dry hands. Don’t forget to wash off the oil with water once you’re done!
After that, use a water-based cleanser like the Face Wash Powder, which transforms from powder to foam when you add water. The foaming cleanser gently exfoliates your skin, clearing any extra-stubborn dirt and leaving your skin positively fresh, soft, and clean.
Check out the products below and let us know what you think of the double cleanse process!
