SIMPLY: Why did you start your YouTube and how has it grown over the years?
BETHANY MOTA: I started YouTube because I had a desire to create something that was my own. It became an outlet to express myself and overcome my shyness. After posting a few videos, I fell in love with the process and the way that it challenges me to be more creative. I believe that having a genuine passion for content creating and connecting with my audience is one of the main reasons it has become successful for me.
You’re now a celebrity and role model for a lot of kids and teens. How do you try to be a positive influence for your followers?
I love using my platform to spread positivity. I think social media has made me realize just how similar everyone is, and that we all experience some of the same issues. I was cyber bullied in middle school, and when I shared my story to my followers, the feedback was incredible. I enjoy sharing what I've learned in life so far, to hopefully inspire others.
What keeps you inspired and passionate about creating new videos?
I am always looking for new ways to improve what I do, and ways that I can be better. This can be frustrating at times, but is incredibly inspiring because when I feel even a little bit of progress in my creativity, I just want to keep working.
You’re traveling to New York City for our NYC Conference this February. What are your travel must-haves?
A good book, my laptop, camera, portable charger, and snacks!
You’ve accomplished so much at such a young age. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Honestly, I am not completely sure. 5 years ago I would have never believed that I would receive half of the opportunities that have come my way. I realized that through taking risks, hard work, and letting my passion drive me, I am led to things that I didn't even really know I wanted. Overall, I just want to continue creating and pushing myself to make things that make me happy, and inspire others in the process.
